The World Ijtema of Tabligh Jamaat is going on on the banks of Turag river in Tongi. Millions of devotees from home and abroad have joined it. This time, due to the Ijtema of one episode, additional pressure of the worshipers has been noticed. The Ijtema field was filled to the brim on Thursday, a day before the official start. On Friday, the worshipers of Ijtema left the field and spread to the surrounding areas. The first final munajat of Ijtema will be held after 10 am on Saturday.
After the bloody clash on December 1 in the internal conflict of Tabligh Jamaat, this year’s Ijtema is in a lot of uncertainty. Although Ijtema is held in January every year, it was not possible this time. After the new government came to power, it was decided to hold Ijtema in four days in one episode by holding meetings with the rabbis of both the parties. But in the end, the leadership was shared between the two warring factions for two days. According to the government’s decision, Maulana Saad of Delhi is leading the opposition for the first two days. And Maulana Sadpanthi party will hold Ijtema on Sunday and Monday.
The 54th World Ijtema began on Friday after Fajr with a statement by Maulana Ziaul Haque of Pakistan. His statement was translated by Maulana Jobayer, the chief rabbi of Tabligh in Bangladesh. Maulana Johairul Hasan of India narrated after Asr. His statement was translated into Bengali by Maulana Delwar Hossain of Bangladesh. After Maghrib was narrated by Maulana Ibrahim Deula of India.
Earlier on Friday afternoon, the largest Friday prayers were held at the Ijtema Maidan with the participation of millions of devotees. The imam was Maulana Jobayer, Khatib of Kakrail Mosque and a member of Tabligh Shura. The prayers started at 1:42 pm.
Devotees from Dhaka-Gazipur and surrounding areas gathered at the Bishwa Ijtema Maidan from Friday morning to take part in the Friday prayers. Many of them came to the Maidan on Thursday night and took position in Khitta with the companions of Tabligh Jamaat. Many people could not find a place on the ground and spread polythene, newspapers, Hogla leaves and took part in Friday prayers on Kamarpara Road, Bata Road and Dhaka-Mymensingh Highway.
Minister of State for Religious Affairs Sheikh Muhammad Abdullah, State Minister for Youth and Sports Zahid Ahsan Russell, Mayor of Gazipur City Corporation Jahangir Alam, Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner YM Belalur Rahman, Deputy Commissioner of Gazipur Dr. Dewan Muhammad Humayun Kabir was one of the participants.
Responding to a question from reporters at the police control room set up at the Shaheed Ahsan Ullah Master Stadium in Tongi before the Friday prayers, the state minister said the formality of the Ijtema had begun peacefully. We think that the Ijtema will be repeated in the same way as before.
Akhtaruzzaman Mollah came to the Maidan from Dhaka’s Mohammadpur around 8 am to perform Friday prayers at the Ijtema ground. He said that millions of people perform Friday prayers together at the World Ijtema Maidan. Allah can accept this prayer with the help of anyone. So, like every year, I have come to take part in the big Friday congregation.
Vigilant law enforcement
Law enforcement is on alert to conduct the World Ijtema peacefully. Gazipur Metropolitan Police Commissioner YM Belalur Rahman briefed reporters on the overall situation on Friday. He said adequate security and traffic measures were taken on the occasion of Friday prayers. Adequate number of traffic police has been deployed for traffic free movement.
The first round of final prayers will be held on Saturday. In addition to the worshipers who took part in the World Ijtema, many worshipers came here to take part in the final munajat. The traffic system has been strengthened for this.
Traffic will be closed at Tongi Bridge, Kamarpara Bridge, Bhogra Bypass, Mirerbazar area and barracks from midnight on Friday. The same management will continue when the worshipers leave at the end of the Ijtema. We expect the citizens to maintain an orderly environment. Members of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, Highway Police and Community Police will assist the traffic police on the road.
