Global Flavors to Take Your Taste Buds on an Adventure

Why you should travel for the food
Adventure trips are special because they offer something new each time. From the activities you pursue to the locations you visit, the best thing about travel is the opportunity to try new things – including food! When you explore the world through our taste buds, you get an in-depth look at the culture and history of a place and have the chance to discover something you never knew before. Some locations are known for their exquisite cuisine – and others are hidden gems. Who would have thought that New Hampshire has the best pancake house on the East Coast? (Spoilers: we did, and we want to share it with you!).

Food has the power to bring people together. Something as simple as sharing a meal on the trail while you rest your tired legs gives you the chance to relax and enjoy some good company. While we think all of our trips have some foodie-friendly aspects, we’ll share some of our favorite culinary destinations.

Follow your taste buds to try new things
Food is a wonderful reason to travel, for foodies and non-foodies alike. We all need to eat, so why not choose something we enjoy? If you mapped out your next few trips solely for the cuisine they offered, you would surely have a rich experience. The best trips for women offer an opportunity to try new things and push your comfort zone. Some cuisine is a little out there. In some parts of Asia, street vendors sell fried insects! You get a taste for iconic cuisine, local favorites, and bizarre delicacies. Not every bite needs to push your comfort zone (hello, pizza). But some might be a little different from what you normally eat at home – and variety is the spice of life!

Explore culture and history through cuisine
Exploring a culture through its cuisine is an excellent way to get to know a place better. Dive into culture and history with each bite, and you’ll leave with a well-rounded idea of what makes this place so special. You may discover cooking methods and ingredients that are only used in certain parts of the world. You may taste something that you would never have had access to before. You’ll learn about customs and traditions, and witness culture in its purest form.

You also get a peek into the past through food. Many recipes and culinary staples originated from a time when the food you ate was entirely regional. Cuisine bubbled up around local resources – the place shaped the food. Now, you can explore flavors from across the world in all from your hometown. But in order to have the freshest, most authentic bite, you really need to travel.

Check out these mouth-watering adventures
While we think every adventure should have a little culinary allure, these are some of our favorites for flavor.

Exploring New Mexico – Land of Enchantment

Not every culinary adventure requires overseas adventure travel! New Mexico is well-known for its fusion of Pueblo Native American with Hispano Spanish and Mexican cuisine. From Native American fry bread-style sopaipillas to anything smothered in chile, New Mexico is bursting with flavors from every corner. On this trip, you’ll have the opportunity to savor the flavors of Santa Fe along with exploring art galleries, ruins, and relaxing at Ten Thousand Waves, a famous Japanese-style spa.

Cinque Terre and the Italian Riviera

Of course, we have to include Italy on a list of top foodie destinations. A trip to Cinque Terre in May is the perfect time to visit, when the hillsides are ablaze in the sights, smells, and tastes of lemons. Indulge your taste for tart with limoncello, lemon marmalade, lemon gelato, and more. This trip also offers a culinary tour of Florence to sample some of Italy’s best-known delights – from antipasti to dessert. And you’ll even get to try your hand in preparing Italian cuisine at a cooking class!

Island Hopping The Greek Islands

Encompassing ancient monuments and sun-drenched islands, Greece is understandably one of Europe’s most popular vacation destinations. Its stunning natural wonders and evocative history are matched only by its legendary cuisine, which is characterized by lashings of olive oil, zesty lemon juice, and rich Greek yogurt. Classic dips such as tzatziki, taramasalata, and melitzanosalata are a delightful lunch on the Taverna patio, while vine leaf-wrapped dolmades washed down with a glass of Greek wine make for a unique nibble after a day exploring the white-washed villages.

White Mountain Holiday

Who would imagine that a fun foodie find is tucked away in the White Mountains of New Hampshire?! After a day full of outdoor pursuits, you’ll be ready to treat yourself to a whoopie pie or other local favorites. Ice cream is a treat on any day, and you’ll visit a small-town treasure. But, the real gem here is the 75 year-old Polly’s Pancake Parlor. Enjoy stacks of made from scratch pancakes or savor waffles smothered in real New Hampshire maple syrup.

On the Camino de Santiago

This famous pilgrimage route to the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela is known as a spiritual journey and also has another significant “pilgrimage” aspect: a foodie bucket list! Spanish tapas are simply gorgeous, and they taste as good as they look. While on this journey, you also might get to try hearty “caldo gallego” soup, almond cake, many Spanish cheese styles, empanadas, and regional white wines. This is a great trip for women looking for a combination of physical challenge, camaraderie, and culinary exploration.
